The Rebbe’s Camp goes to the Rebbe…

The Rebbe's Camp goes to the Rebbe...

Wednesday night: After Mincha the campers were gathered together for line-up and told to put on their Shabbos clothes. Before supper the campers watched a speciel video presentation of the Rebbe going to the Ohel. After the video, the campers made their way to the dining room to find that a special Shabbos-like Seuda had been prepared.
After supper Rabbi Avraham Berkowitz, Shliach of the Rebbe to Moscow, Farbrenged with Gan Yisroel in honor of Gimmel Tammuz.

Thursday Morning: After breakfast, campers went to their learning classes for final moments of preparation before they wrote their PaN.

For Minchah, the Chazan Davened simultaneously with a tape of the Rebbe davening Minchah, giving the children a chance to daven with the Rebbe. Shortly after, the camp went to the buses and was on it’s way to the Ohel. Incredible planning and fantastic cooperation allowed the whole experience to run smoothly. As Gan Yisroel lined up next to the Ohel onlookers had the chance to witness the Rebbe’s camp coming to the Rebbe. Special time was allotted exclusively for Gan Yisroel, and each camper was able to through and read his name and mothers name by the Ohel. Special thanks to Abba Refson.

Thursday night: The camp loaded efficiently back onto the buses and went to Beis Rivkah for a special supper and rally.

First week of camp, and boy was it successful!

Yes, the first week of camp brought together a record breaking number of campers and therefore a record breaking number of bunks as well, including new divisions – the Bar Mitzvah Division and the Columbians.

With all the energy of a Gan Yisroel Shabbos and more, Friday night “rocked”. Indeed, every bunk contributed to the lively atmosphere of Shabbos, with Niggunim and jumping on benches.

Shabbos day featured Farbrengens for each learning class, in which each Learning Teacher had the chance to Farbreng with his Talmidim for the first time.

Three bunks won Shabbos competition and went on a special trip; Bunk Hey, Bunk Yud-Zayin and Bunk Tes-Vov

Sunday: Rain clouds moved out of the way for Gan Yisroel’s first day of sports leagues, providing the best sports experience for each camper.

The Bar Mitzvah division (aka BMD) experienced 2 Hanachos Tefillin’s on Sunday, and 2 more on Monday.

Preparations for Gimmel Tamuz continue. A special “Kuntres Hiskashrus” was printed by the Learning Directors to be learned with the campers in learning class, as part of preparation for Gimmel Tammuz and the camp’s trip to the Ohel.

Iy”h the Web Cam will be up and running by the end of this week, sorry for the inconvenience.

SUMMER #48 UNDERWAY @ CAMP GAN YISROEL, NY 6-2003

Every good organization gets better with age and Camp Gan Yisroel, NY established by the Rebbe 48 years ago is no different.

Thanks to a very dedicated Camp Director Rabbi Yossie Futerfas-now in his 16th season at the helm- backed by a talented head staff headed up by Head Counselors Yoel Gancz, Simcha Morgenstern and Yudi Steiner and learning directors Rabbi Sholom Baras and Tmimim Shaya Gopin and Yehuda Stern, CGI is BH once again off to a great start.

The 280+ campers k”ah, the most campers in over decade and perhaps even longer than that, in 25 bunks, including the increasingly popular Bar Mitzvah Division have camp rocking away.

Arriving on Tuesday afternoon, the campers were treated to spanking clean camp grounds. From the shiny floors in the Shul where the air conditioning was pumping away, to the neatly trimmed grass all around camp along with the clean crisp country air, campers and staff alike agreed it was great to be back for yet another summer in The Rebbe’s Camp.

Tuesday afternoon was reserved for unpacking.

On Wednesday, with the weather still very hot the campers were able to get all the pool rules and regulations and still have time for a much appreciated swim in CGI’s Olympic-size outdoor pool. Campers also had fun filled sports activities.

Wednesday night also featured the first night activity of the season performed by N.A.D. Moshe Hecht.

COLOR WAR REPORT 8-2002

Yesterday afternoon we had a beautiful and exciting color war break out. After hearing on Shabbos about the new property Gan Yisroel is about to purchase, (as was written on shmais) the campers were told that someone had given an extra big donation and therefore the grounds was going to be purchased together with a big celebration on Monday afternoon. At around five o’clock the campers all went up to hill were the ribbon cutting celebration was to take place from a point where you were able to see the new grounds. Rabbi Shemtov spoke about how special this is for the Rebbe’s camp, and just thereafter H.C. Asher Deren announced that the first activity we are going to be doing is COLOR WAR. (the funny part is that the grounds are still going to be purchased)

The campers all went into the Shul to be split up into teams. General Moshe Steiner’s team was called Lehovie Es HaGeulah, and General Mendy Kaplan’s team was called Lilmoid MaiHarebbe.
At night the campers watched four smashing scavengers, about golfing court cases sewing and much more. All the campers left the Shul with a smile on their face eager to jump into their bed for another smashing day of Color War .

Tuesday morning the campers woke up early to begin learning Mishnayos Baal Peh. Followed by Davening in a beautifully decorated Shul prepared the night before by the hard working staff.

As soon as learning classes finished, the kids began practicing there theme song until they were stopped by lineup and lunch. After lunch there was the song presentation followed by races in the indoor pool.

After Minchah the campers watched a gorgeous play. After supper the kids watched a second beautiful play. Right after the plays everyone said Krias Shema, and went to sleep more tired than ever.
